Legumes (Leguminosae) – identify Peas, Beans and other Fabaceae plants

This site is about plants belonging to the big Fabaceae family. Their members are also known as Legumes. Botanically the family is called Fabaceae or Leguminosae. It includes popular (pod) fruits such as Peas (Pisum), Lentils (Lens) or Garden Beans (Phaseolus) and ornamental plants such as Broom (Cytisus) or Lupins (Lupinus). Some of them are used as indoor plants. The most prominent example is the Sensitive Plant (Mimosa pudica).

All the members of this family have a common characteristic: their seeds are contained within a pod.
